In June 2023, the Ontario Government announced that the Region of Peel was to be dissolved by January 1st, 2025, making Caledon, Brampton, and Mississauga independent municipalities. The transition board was created by the government to oversee the dissolution of the region and to provide recommendations on a range of restructuring that will be required as the region is dissolved.
